Degenerative Disc Disease

Degnerative Disc Disease (DDD) is a term used to describe the normal “wear and tear” in your spine as you age. The spine consistens of bony structures as well as soft compressible discs. These discs act as the shock absorbers to the spine. Unfortunately over time they can become damaged secondary to tears, cracks, loss of fluid, bony spurs and arthritis. DDD is most common in people who are overweight, have long history of hard manual labor and smoke cigarettes. Pain from DDD varies from person to person and can be adequately assessed and treated by your doctor.
