Compression Fractures

Compression Fractures are fractures in the vertebral bodies (the blocks of the spinal cord). The vertebral bodies will compress down almost as if you were stepping on a tin can. The fractures often cause pain and limited mobility. The most common cause of fracture is osteoporosis, but hemangioma (blood vessel growth), trauma and certain types of cancer can cause compression fractures. The best treatment for recent compression fractures is restoration of the bony matrix as well as vertebro/kyphoplasty.
